National Radon Action Month, in January of each year, is focused on raising awareness about the dangers of high radon levels in homes. Radon is one of the leading causes of lung cancer in the world. Home testing, awareness of the dangers of radon, and lung cancer prevention are the goals of National Radon Action Month. National Radon Action Month emphasizes the importance of regular home testing. Radon maps show where the gas is most prevalent in the United States. Areas where radon levels are highest require more frequent testing and more preventative measures be taken.
National Radon Action Month, January 2013, is a good time to assess your home to determine whether repairs are necessary and to learn more about the dangers of this odorless, invisible gas and its effects on the body. National Radon Month is also a good time to use available resources and join in community activities to learn how to prevent lung cancer.
Radon is the number one in-home killer in the United States claiming 21,000 lives of unsuspecting homeowners to lung cancer—most of whom have never even smoked. Though unnoticeable to human senses, Thrasher Basement Systems performs radon testing and mitigation to reduce homes to levels below the action level of 4.0 picocuries per liter. We at Thrasher understand the importance of helping homeowners understand radon, and we hope you’ll join us this month in raising awareness to the effects of radon exposure!
Radon testing can be done at home where test results are then sent and diagnosed at a lab. There are short-term and long-term tests available. We also offer radon testing in Nebraska.
Thrasher Basement Systems will send a technician to your home to set up the CRM radon detection testing equipment. Over a 48 hour period, the CRM testing equipment will determine the average radon levels at your home.
Once the testing period (48 hours) is complete, a Thrasher Basement Systems technician will return to collect the testing equipment. If radon levels require mitigation, your Thrasher technician can discuss options with you.
